How Long Do Chanterelles Take To Grow?

The speed of fruiting corresponds to the delay between a physico-chemical change and the emergence of the chanterelles in their most juvenile form. What changes are we talking about exactly?
Rain, a drop in temperature… Indeed, several changes can initiate the fruiting of chanterelles. But is it really useful to follow these changes to know how long it takes to grow a chanterelle?
Generally, no! Why ? Because the chanterelle comes out mainly in October and November. These months are known to be the wettest and most fluctuating in terms of temperature. As these changes are continuous, it is useless to follow a climatic event such as rain! Indeed, the strong temperature variation between day and night will create significant condensation and therefore sufficient humidity to initiate the growth of chanterelles. Under these conditions, it is difficult to follow a precise climatic event!

What about the growth time of chanterelles? The growth time of the chanterelle corresponds to the time between its juvenile form and its adult state. Is this parameter also useless?
Well no, this parameter is useful! Indeed, if you always collect chanterelles in the same place, then you need to know to what extent the adult chanterelles are renewed on your spot! In this specific case, to go from juvenile size to adult size, the chanterelle takes about 5 days!
Concretely, if you pick up all the adult-size chanterelles on a spot, then you will have to come back 5 days later to hope to get a good harvest of adult chanterelles again.
How Long Do Chanterelles Take To Grow After Rain?
As we saw in the first part of this article, the rain does not have much impact on the growth time of chanterelles, because they will grow in October or November, mainly. During this period, the humidity level is high and the rain is therefore often not the trigger for the growth of chanterelles.
The ideal is to go at the right time to your places to see if the chanterelles are starting to come out. They will come out, globally, all the time at the same period, every year.
