Where Ticks Can Be Found?

No, ticks don’t climb trees and jump on you. Rest assured!

So how do they cling to you? Where ticks come from?

Generally speaking, ticks try to climb up to the height of your knees and they do so through the vegetation that is at this height:

  • Small bushes
  • tall grass
  • ferns

Thus, the tick makes its way through the small vegetation at knee height, at most.

How To Prevent Ticks?

There are several possible answers to this question:

  1. If you go to mushrooms in the forest during times when ticks are in hibernation. In this case, the risk of catching a tick is low! To put it simply, the tick goes into hibernation from November until the beginning of March. You can thus avoid them by going to the forest during these periods.
  2. If you go to mushrooms in forests at altitudes above 6561 ft, then the risk of catching a tick is very low! It is therefore a good way to avoid getting ticks
  3. If you go to forest mushrooms between March and November, then simply limit your passage to areas where the vegetation is too high. Choose open areas!

Repel And Protect Yourself From Ticks In The Forest

So how do you protect yourself from ticks in the woods? Are there any tips? Yes ! Here are some tips to put in place to protect yourself and regain serenity:

  • Wear clothes that cover your whole body! So, yes, it is hot, of course. But you don’t have to put on a ski suit! All you have to do is cover your legs and make sure there are no openings on them.
  • Once your outing in the forest is over, take off your clothes before get in the car. Of course, you don’t have to stay naked for the trip home, you can also put on a change of clothes. It’s up to you!
  • Use a tick repellent such as a DEET or Permethrin-based spray on high-risk areas of your body (directly on the skin or on clothing). You can also use essential oils, but it is clearly less effective!
  • When you get home, take a quick shower and use a comb to brush your hair. Thus, you will further reduce the risk of having a tick on your body!
