How To Identify An Ash Tree?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ash trees can reach large sizes and can range from a few hundreds of ft to over 130 ft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are now some photos and descriptions to properly identify the ash tree:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Buds:<\/strong> they are quite large, conical in shape, of a beautiful velvety black.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leaf:<\/strong> the leaves are opposite and have 7 to 15 elongated toothed leaflets. They are a beautiful dark green color.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fruits:<\/strong> we also speak of “samara”. They are flattened, provided with a membranous wing. Their dissemination is done through the wind and their particular shape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bark:<\/strong> In the juvenile state, the bark is very smooth and of a grayish color. Later, as it grows, the bark gradually cracks and forms prominent streaks. It is common to see a yellowish colored lichen on this one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ash Tree Identification Without Leaves! <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Let’s move on to the most interesting part!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How on earth do you identify an ash tree in the middle of winter? And more generally, without leaves? Take a good look at the image below:<\/p>\n\n\n

  1. The younger branches naturally reorient themselves and all point upwards. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. The large black buds bring an irregularity to the branch which is easily identifiable, even from a long distance!<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. The terminal branches are quite thick. (in proportion to the main branches) <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    That’s it! By practicing, you will quickly know how to identify ash trees after only a few tries, and you will see how easy it is to identify an ash tree several hundred meters away!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
